Museum opens doors for summer; new model created

The Caribou Historical Museum saw its first customers of the season, as it officially opened its doors for summer hours to start the Memorial Day weekend.

The Caribou Historical Society is now open on Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm during the summer up to Labor Day. In conjunction, board member Galen Wilson announced “We would like to invite you to come visit us and see the latest building that Gus Green has built for us. It is a replica of the barn the Neils Anderson owned in 'Old Morristown', it is still standing (kinda) just south of Jeff's Auto Repair down by the Alexander Reservoir. Gus has built several buildings of some of the old historical buildings in Caribou County including the "Henry School House, the Henry Store" and several of the buildings in Chesterfield.  We would love to have you come and visit us to see these. Our museum is the Old Stoor's Grocery located at 100 E Hooper Ave in Soda Springs.”

Ryder Mumford, Gabe Brown, Cole Porter, and Alma Clarke visited the museum on a nice sunny day!

The collection of model historical buildings is one of the many interesting features of the permanent museum building, which contains a number of fascinating documents and materials from Caribou County and the surrounding areas.

The museum features medical and dental equipment, uniforms, weapons, and equipment from various military conflicts, kitchen and domestic items, a large number of crayon portraits and historical images, and a recreated children’s bedroom and playroom with a recently restored model train set.

In addition to Saturday hours, members of the Society can be contacted about tours or museum opening outside of those hours.  Contact numbers from Galen Wilson, Jerry Stoor, and bill Horsley are posted on the entrance to the museum.

Membership in the Historical Society can also be obtained through members of the board, and a yearly membership starts at $25 dollars, which helps to support maintenance of the collection and resources necessary to keep the museum running.

The collection of historical buildling models was just added to.
