Flag Team sets sights on Golf Tournament and July 24
Members of the Ladies Flag Team are holding a fundraising Gold Tournament on May 8 at Oregon Trail. The funds will be used to help keep the team in gear and materials throughout the season. Over the course of the coming year, they have plans to present entertainment performances at events such as Pioneer Days in Bancroft on the 24th, as well as competition events like the District meet the next day, July 25th. Flag Team involves high skilled, choreographed riding and individuals flag skills. The Venmo link is directly in support of the team.
The Caribou Ladies Flag Team was on site at last weekend’s District 8 rodeo to spread the word about their upcoming Golf fundraiser and exciting summer events. Ladies Flag Team member (and Miss Rodeo Caribou County 2018) Sydney Allen told us a bit about the team and what’s in store.
In the immediate future, we told you a couple weeks ago about a fundraiser Golf Tournament on May 8 at Oregon Trail Country Club. There are still spots available, even the morning of for those who would like to support the team. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and includes a number of prizes. All proceeds go to support the team, which has the kind of costume, tack, and upkeep costs you would expect.
Over the course of the rest of the year, the team will be competing and performing in a variety of places and situations.
“We are doing a tribute to the military this year, so our music has military members from our community speaking alongside the music. We will be doing drills with military branch of service flags to honor them this year,” Allen said.
The team competes through the Idaho State Riding Association, which will be the governing body over their competitive performances, though they will also be presenting entertainment performances at various venues for the PRCA.
The Team’s Facebook page will be posted a completed list of events once they are finalized, but has one weekend in particular on its radar, which is the Bancroft Pioneer Days. “We’ll do their parade and National Anthem and perform for them.” The day after is the Southern District meet in Grace. “It’s a pretty busy weekend,” Allen laughed.
“We had this idea last fall. A bunch of us got together for one day just to test the waters, and we all liked it. So we decided to pursue it this winter and get things organized, and now we’re ready to go.”
The ISRA is a state-level competition organization that involved “gaming” events that demonstrate the horse and riders’ ability to perform unscripted tasks, as well as routines that are choreographed and involve the full team. A drill can last anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. The competitions are adjudicated by the total team score. “It’s been awesome—we’re super excited!”
