Cowboys And Grizzlies Compete At Bear Lake

The Cowboys and Grizzlies took their track teams on the road last week when they traveled to Bear Lake.  Each team had some solid performances which included a handful of individual PR’s.  In the boys competition none of our local athletes were able to place in the top ten in the sprint races but several individuals earned new personal bests.  The Cowboy’s Stockton Wight was able to crack the top ten with an eighth place finish in the 800 meter run.  The Grizzly’s Jonah Wilkerson continues to perform well at the hurdles taking the top spot in the 110 meter distance.  Alex Curtis from North Gem just slid into the top ten in that same race where he placed ninth with a new PR.  Case Williams from Grace earned tenth place in the shot put and finished in fourth place in the discus.  Also from Grace Gavin Draper placed first in the javelin while the Cowboy’s Stockton Wight took fourth place with a new PR.  The Grizzlies Parker Yost, Bradley Schiele, and Bryant Moss all earned top ten finishes in some of the jumping events. Yost placed fifth in the high jump, Schiele earned sixth in long jump and Moss grabbed fourth place in the triple jump.

The girls fared a little better in the sprint races.  North Gem’s Sadie Daniels placed fourth in the 100 meter sprint while her teammate Indyana Hatch earned ninth place.  Finishing between the two Lady Cowboy sprinters were Lady Grizzlies Jeanaelie Shaffer and Brynlee Hubbard.  Shaffer finished in sixth place and Hubbard in seventh.  Shaffer went on to place tenth in the 200 meters with a new PR.  The Lady Grizzlies top distance runner Brooklyn Porter earned a new PR in the 3200 meter race where she placed third overall.  Madalyn Barnes from North Gem earned a big first place finish in the discus with a PR.  In that same event the Lady Grizzly’s Haiden Osborn was able to finish in third place.  Barnes went on to earn a ninth place finish in the javelin.  Finally the Lady Grizzly’s Brooklyn Porter tried her hand at the triple jump for the first time this season and ended up placing in third place with a new PR.

The Cowboys and Grizzlies will face off with one another along with the rest of their district in the district championship meet this week.  That meet will take place over a two day period on Thursday and Friday and will be located at Century High School in Pocatello.
