4-H/FFA SE Idaho Beef Judging Clinic and Contest

On Friday, members of Southeast Idaho 4-H and FFA Chapters, as well as members of the public, gathered at Dirk and Marnie Johnson’s Sale Barn in Bancroft for a great chance to learn and sharper their skills.

The event involved a clinic, during which participants learned what beef judges look for in sale animals.  The information is incredibly helpful for those raising their own beef as part of a Fair project, or looking at becoming a judge, a producer, or buyer down the road.

The beef used in the contest were all judged by an experienced livestock judge first, and then participants gave their own scores.  Those with values closest to the judge’s earned the highest scores through the rounds.  

The winners are as follows: 

Seniors – 1st Coy Hatch, 2nd Cashlee Smith, 3rd Brooke Wakefield 

Juniors – 1st Ty Schuman (Franklin County), 2nd Tanna Johnson, 3rd Hank Hansen (Bear Lake)

Intermediate – 1st Cort Banks, 2nd Dakota Johnson, 3rd Allie Hansen (Bear Lake)

Adult winners – 1st Dawn Ashby (Franklin County), 2nd Aynsley Beutler
