North Gem Track Runs In Murtaugh

The North Gem track team took their talents to Murtaugh last week to compete in the Barry Espil meet.  The meet featured all small schools most of which are located in the Magic Valley.  The Cowboys mens and womens teams battled hard and finished right in the middle of the pack when it came to team scores.  The boys team finished sixth out of eleven teams while the girls ended in fifth.  The Cowboys put up some solid performances and even competed in the unusual event of a mixed 4x100 throwers relay.

For the boys team Alex Curtis continued to show that he has sprinters speed as he finished in sixth place overall in the 100 meter dash while also being a key member of both the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.  Stockton and Stone Wight turned in new personal best times in the 800 meter race with Stockton earning a top five finish.  Stone had his best finish in the 3200 meters where he finished in third place.  The Cowboys had a large contingent of throwers compete with freshman Bryan Egley having the best day of them all.  Egley was the top finisher among his teammates in all three throwing events and came away with new personal best distances in the shot put and javelin.  Rounding out the field events for the Cowboys were Jeremiah Perry who placed sixth in the long jump and Coy Hatch who came in fourth place in the triple jump.

In the girls 100 meter dash Indyana Hatch was the top finisher for the Lady Cowboys just edging out Sadie Daniels by two one hundredths of a second.  Hatch then went on to a third place finish in the 400 while setting a new personal best time closely followed by Gracie Christensen who placed fourth in the race.  The Lady Cowboys were able to earn a second place finish in the medley relay with the team of Sadie Daniels, Mariah O’Brien, Gracie Christensen and Indyana Hatch.  Madalyn Barnes had a great day in the throwing events.  Barnes earned a personal best distance in the shot put, placed fourth in the discus and then earned a second place finish in the javelin with yet another personal best distance.  Indyana Hatch continued her solid day with a fifth place finish in the long jump.

In the rare mixed throwers relay the Cowboys once again finished in the middle of the pack ending in fifth place out of eight teams.  The mixed relay had to consist of all throwers two of which were male and the other two female.  The Cowboys put up the team of William Wakley, John Roberts, Kymberli Jensen, and Bailey Perkins.  These events are always a crowd favorite and give the throwers a chance to experience being on a relay team.

This week the Cowboys are scheduled to compete at the West Side Invitational on Thursday.
