Cardinals Fall To Malad
May 07, 2026 10:56AM ● By Jody ReevesDue to some typical east Idaho Spring weather the Soda Springs Cardinals baseball team was limited to just a single game last week. That game was on the road at Malad. The Dragons are always a formidable foe and that would hold true in this game. The Cardinals failed to earn any runs over the first three innings of the game. In fact they were only able to get on base a handful of times. The Dragons on the other hand put up three runs in each of their first two at bats. Then in the bottom of the third Malad really went to work driving in eight additional runs. In the top of the fourth the Cardinals were finally able to get on the board with a single run but still had a mountain to climb. Step one was to hold the Dragons scoreless in the bottom of the fourth which the Cardinals did accomplish. The next step would be to have a monstrous inning in the top of the fifth in order to force the game to continue into a sixth inning. Unfortunately the Cardinals themselves were held scoreless and the game ended without the Dragons needing to take their final at bat. There is not a lot to say about this game even from a stats perspective. The Cardinals only managed to get three hits and one run. The coaches seem to be pleased with the work of Junior Horsley on the mound as he once again had the bulk of the work in this game. Horsley threw seventy-four pitches but only ended with a pair of strikeouts. For the most part this was one of those games that you put behind you and don't think too long about.
Originally the Cardinals were set to host the Dragons in the later part of last week but as was mentioned weather forced that game to be rescheduled for this week. After a slow week last week the Cardinals have a much busier week this week. They traveled to Bear Lake on Tuesday before hosting a double header against North Fremont on Wednesday. The Cardinals then have their make-up game with Malad on Thursday before traveling to Declo on Friday.
