The local golf teams have had some early in the week meets last week and this week making reporting on them a little tricky but here we go.  We will start with last week where the Cardinals got to play host at the Oregon Trail Country Club in Soda Springs.  Teams always want to do well on their home course and in last week's meet the Cardinals definitely showed up in a big way.  Unfortunately in the girls competition the Lady Cardinals were the only school out of the six in attendance to show up with a full team.  By default this gave the team win to the Lady Cardinals however don't let that make you think they would not have won anyway.  Four of the five team members were able to shoot under one hundred with Jayden Parker earning the overall top individual spot with a seventy-two.  The Lady Grizzlies were short players and competed with just three girls.  The Lady Grizzlies were led once again by Kamryn Mansfield, who was a little banged up but still managed to shoot an eighty. The boys competition was a whole different story.  Unlike the girls the boys had five full teams competing.  Despite the extra competition the Cardinals were once again able to take the top spot.  Soda Springs was followed by West Side in second place and Grace in third.  For the Cardinals Barrett Hobbs led the team finishing in third place overall.  The Grizzlies were once again led by Keathan Edwards who was the second place individual finisher.

This week the Cardinals and Grizzlies traveled to Blackfoot on Monday to compete in a very competitive field with 3A and 4A schools.  The eight schools in attendance were Soda Springs, Grace, Aberdeen, West Side, Snake River, American Falls, Marsh Valley, and Bear Lake.  In the boy’s competition the Panthers from Snake River ran away with first place but the Cardinals from Soda Springs gutted out a second place finish over Marsh Valley beating the Eagles by a single stroke.  The Cardinals were tightly grouped with all five players being separated by just eleven strokes.  Soda Springs was led by Preston Ozburn who shot an eighty-four.  The Grizzlies struggled on the day finishing in seventh place only beating Aberdeen.  The lone bright spot for the Grizzlies was once again Keathan Edwards who finished in third place individually with an eighty.  The girls competition was limited to just five full teams that included Soda Springs, Grace, Aberdeen, Bear Lake, and Snake River.  Our two local teams did very well in this meet with the Lady Cardinals taking first place and the Lady Grizzlies coming in second.  Once again the two top individual spots were filled with Soda Springs Jayden Parker, and Grace’s Kamryn Mansfield.  Parker shot an impressive seventy and Mansfield finished with a seventy-four.

The week isn't over for the local teams; they will be back in action on Thursday barring any inclement weather.  The boys teams will once again be in Soda Springs while the girls will be in Grace.
