Cardinals Go 2-2 At Glenns Ferry Tournament

May 07, 2026 10:44AM ● By Jody Reeves

Elijah Dilworth's hitting helped in the Cardinals success last weekend.

The Soda Springs Cardinals baseball team spent the weekend playing in the Glenns Ferry tournament.  The Cardinals played four games in three days.  They started their weekend early with a Thursday game against Wendell.  The Trojans controlled the game for the first three innings running up a thirteen run lead.  The Cardinals were able to slow the game down in the fourth and match the Trojans with each team earning two runs.  That is how the game would end with the Trojans earning the large victory.  Elijah Dilworth earned one of the Cardinal’s runs while also picking up an RBI.  Dilworth also did the majority of pitching in this game, throwing ninety-three pitches and earning three strikeouts.

Friday the Cardinals took on the Wildcats from Idaho City.  Soda Springs took an early lead in this game and never let it go.  After the second inning the Cardinals led six to one but it was the third inning where the Cardinals really opened up the game.  In the third the Cardinals drove in seven runs and eventually came away with a double digit win.  Dilworth once again led the team with two runs earning three RBI’s on four at bats.  Kage Kirby also picked up a pair of RBI’s as well as scoring a run.  Kolten Peterson took all the pitching duties in this game throwing over one hundred pitches and earned ten strikeouts.

On the final day of the tournament the Cardinals started the day off taking on the Notus Pirates.  This was another game where the Cardinals dominated their opponent from start to finish.  The game only lasted four innings with the Cardinals racking up sixteen runs over the first three innings.  Kage Kirby led the batting with three RBI’s while earning a pair of runs of his own.  Randy Stephens came away with four stolen bases.

Junior Horsley has put in significant time pitching for the Cardinals.

The final game of the tournament saw the Cardinals take on a very good Kendrick Tiger team.  The Cardinals struck first, earning a single run in the top of the first.  The Tigers responded with a big inning of their own and took a seven run lead.  Neither team could cross the plate over the next two innings then in the fourth Soda Springs drove in two runs.  Once again Kendrick responded, earning three more runs of their own.  Over the final two innings the Cardinals were outscored five runs to zero and fell in the final game of the tournament.  Randy Stephens earned two of the Cardinals three runs.  Junior Horsley did the bulk of the work on the mound throwing one hundred eleven pitches while earning five strikeouts
