Grizzlies Compete At Century Invite

The Grace Grizzlies took part in the Century Invite last week in Pocatello.  The Grizzlies walked away with a bag of mixed results from the competition.  Not many Grizzlies earned new personal best times however several did place very high in the competition.  As a team the boys placed fourth out of six teams while the girls finished fourth out of five teams.  The three teams that topped the Grizzlies were all 5A and 6A schools.  On the bright side of the teams scoring was the teams that the Grizzlies finished ahead of were district rivals Rockland and Butte County. The boys team finished forty-four and a half points ahead of Rockland and forty-six points ahead of Butte while the girls finished twenty points ahead of Rockland.  Butte County did not bring their girls team.

Those Lady Grizzlies that were able to hit new personal best marks included Alayna Smith who finished seventh in the 400 meter dash and Callie Yost who earned a personal best in the 100 meter dash.  Freshman Brielle Yost finished sixth in the shot put with a new personal record and Ashley King earned one in the Javelin.  Jeanaelie Shaffer finished fifth in the long jump with a season best jump of just over fourteen feet.  Haiden Osborn finished third in the javelin while also throwing a new personal best in the discus coming in second in this meet.  Hurdlers Bella Eddins and Callie Yost finished in third and fourth place respectively in the 300’s.  Brooklyn Porter managed a third place finish in the 1600 meters and grabbed the top spot in the 800 meter race.  Finally the 4x400 relay team of Bella Eddins, Ashley King, Brooklyn Porter and Callie Yost finished first place overall.

We will start with the field events for the boys team.  In the long jump Bryant Moss earned a new personal best distance while teammate Jonah Wilkerson finished in fifth place with a season best jump coming up just one inch short of twenty feet.  Luke Moss earned a personal best distance in the discus and Parker Yost hit a season best height in the high jump.  The best field event for the Grizzlies was once again the javelin where Bryant Moss finished in second place only getting beat by teammate Gavin Draper who took the top spot.  In the running events Adrian Mejia earned season best marks in both the 200 meter dash and the 800 meter run where he finished in third place.  Hurdle specialists Jonah Wilkerson and Parker Yost represented the team very well in both the 110 and 300 meter races.  Yost finished third overall in the 300’s and second in the 110’s while Wilkerson grabbed the top spot in both races.  Like the girls, the boys 4x400 relay team took the top spot overall with team members Gavin Draper, Carter Mecham, Adrian Mejia, and Jonah Wilkerson.  The best performance of the day however came from sophomore Carter Mecham.  Mecham earned a fourth place finish in the 200 meter race with a new personal best time and then followed that up with a first place finish in the 400 meter race also with a new personal best.  Mechams 400 time is also a new school record marking the third school record recorded by a member of the boys team this season.  The other two new records came earlier this season from Wilkerson in the hurdles and Draper in the javelin.

This week the Grizzlies will head to the campus of Idaho State University to compete in the Direct.Com Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
