Cardinals Add To Win Column

Apr 24, 2026 09:04AM ● By Jody Reeves

The Soda Springs baseball team was able to pick up two wins over a pair of 4A schools last week.  The Cardinals started the week off hosting the Bear Lake Bears.  Going into that game the Cardinals were sitting on a four game skid and were desperately seeking to end that trend.  The Cardinals got off to a solid start in the first inning of the game.  After holding the Bears scoreless in the top of the first Soda Springs responded with a pair of runs in the bottom.  Over the next two innings the game tightened up.  In both the second and third innings the teams matched each other's output with each team earning a single run in each of those innings.  In the fourth inning neither team would be able to cross the plate.  The two early runs for the Cardinals continued to be the difference in the game as they headed into the fifth inning.  The Cardinals were able to continue to keep the Bears from reaching home plate in the top of the fifth and knocked in two more runs for themselves in the bottom of the inning.  In the sixth inning the Cardinals defense continued to be solid once again holding the Bears to no runs.  Soda Springs added one more run in the bottom of the sixth, now holding a five run lead over the Bears heading into the final inning.  The Bears would need five runs to extend the game but the Cardinals shut the door on them once again and ended the game.  The seven runs came from seven different players for the Cardinals.  On the mound Kolten Peterson did the bulk of the work throwing eighty-nine pitches earning eight strikeouts along the way.

Soda's Randy Stephens on the base path.

Following the solid home win the Cardinals traveled to American Falls to face the Beavers on the road.  The Cardinals were able to ride the momentum from their earlier win.  After taking a two to one lead in the first inning the Cardinals opened things up in the top of the second.  The Cardinal’s bats heated up as they were able to roll in six runs opening up a seven point lead heading into the third.  In the third and fourth innings the Cardinals hit a bit of a slump and were unable to add to their lead and in fact gave up a run cutting their lead to just six.  The Cardinals stepped up to the plate in the top of the fifth and woke back up driving in six more runs.  This gave the Cardinals a substantial lead going into the bottom of the inning.  The Beavers would need a big at bat to extend the game.  American Falls did manage to score in the inning but not enough to send it to a sixth inning and the Cardinals earned back to back wins.  Isaiah Bowman crossed the plate three times and Tim Vedder led the team with two RBI’s. Junior Horsley got the bulk of the work on the mound in this one earning nine strikeouts.

The Cardinals will get plenty of chances to add wins this week.  They hosted Declo on Tuesday, a game that had not taken place at the time of the writing of this article.  Soda Springs will get plenty more chances as they hit the road to play in the Glenns Ferry tournament this weekend.  We will have a rundown of all of those games in next week's edition.
