A Look At The Links

Despite the unseasonably warm temperatures the golf season was still able to sneak right up on us.  As a result we were not able to obtain all of the information on last week's matches.  What we do know is that the Grace Grizzlies traveled to American Falls to take on the Beavers, as well as West Side and Grace Lutheran.  The Grizzlies boys team is in a bit of a rebuilding year after losing several of their top performers to graduation.  The lone holdover from last year's state qualifying team is Keathen Edwards.  Edwards had some fantastic performances last season and in last week's match led the team by shooting a 78.  Edwards was joined by fellow junior Mack Jorgensen and a pair of sophomores Jace Manhart and Kade Kimball.  Edwards' solid performance was not enough to lift the team to a top three finish.  The host school took the top spot and was followed by West Side.  Grace Lutheran came in third edging out the Grizzlies by twenty three strokes.  The Grizzlies have plenty of work to do if they have any chance of making another run at the state tournament.

The Lady Grizzlies are a different story.  While they did lose a tremendous talent in Karlie Christensen to graduation they were able to retain three more solid golfers.  Returning for the Lady Grizzlies are seniors Tess Jorgensen, Shaston Lloyd and the team's top golfer Kamryn Mansfield.  The Lady Grizzlies have also recruited another senior newcomer to the team Paisley Barthlome.  It was no surprise that Mansfield led the way for Grace as she has been one of the Lady Grizzlies best golfers for several seasons.  As a team the Lady Grizzlies shot a 382 which was enough to defeat the host school American Falls.  Grace and American Falls were the only two schools to have full teams.  The Lady Grizzlies should be in contention once again this season to contend for a spot in the state tournament.

The Grizzlies will continue their season this week when they travel to Aberdeen where they are scheduled to see the other team from the county Soda Springs.  Check out next week's article on A Look At The Links to see how all the local golfers did in that match.
