Jaxson Horsley finishing the 200 at last Friday's meet.
The Soda Spring track teams traveled to Kimberly last week to take part in a fairly large and very competitive meet. With eleven teams in attendance and with most of those teams being 4A schools the competition was fierce in this meet. With the abundance of high quality competition it would take an incredible performance to stand out in this one. While several Cardinals did reach personal best marks at the meet only a small number of them were able to crack the top ten with just a handful of those finishing in the top five.
The Lady Cardinals were missing a few girls for this meet and only one girl in attendance was able to finish in the top ten of an individual event. Standout runner Ellie Wood did very well placing fourth in the 400 meters and moved up to third place in the 1600 meter race. Wood was also an integral part of the Lady Cardinals 4x200 meter relay team that finished in third place at the meet. Madilyn Kempe while unable to crack the top ten did have some solid races coming in fifteenth in the 100 meter sprint followed by a thirteenth place finish in the 200 meters and twelfth place finish in the 400 meters. Taylie Brewer also just missed out on a top ten finish coming in eleventh place in the 200 meter sprint.
On the boys team we will start with Jaxson Horsley who just missed a top ten finish in the 200 meter sprint finishing in eleventh place. Horsley performed very well in the 400 meter sprint setting a new personal best and finishing in third place. Horsley also found success in his field event the triple jump where he finished in fourth place. Landon Martinsen was hot on Horsley’s heels finishing thirteenth in the 200 meter sprint, eleventh in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. Zayden Garbett ran to a fourth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles and Jace Garbett vaulted to a sixth place finish in the pole vault. Horsley, Martinsen, and the two Garbetts also teamed up for a second place finish in the 4x200 meter relay. Sophomore Carson Cook threw his way to an eight place finish in the javelin and a tenth place finish in the shot put. Senior standout Cole Garbett once again finished near the top in the shot put and discus. Garbett finished in second place in both events throwing a season best 49’5” in the shot put.
This week the Cardinals will travel to Malta to compete in the Cleta Whitaker Memorial at Raft River high school.
