Grace City Council Report, Feb 18

Adapted from the official minutes recorded by City Clerk Shelley Reeves

Mayor Pristupa called the meeting to order, after which Councilmember Butikofer gave the invocation and Clerk Reeves led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Bills in the amount of $2,832.59 and payroll in the amount of $16,706.66 were reviewed for payment approval and approved.

Mayor Pristupa reported that there had been a couple of incidents at the Center Street bridge construction site with people driving around the barricades. Deputy Russ Roper has been keeping an eye on the area to help put a stop to that.

Mayor Pristupa excused Fire Chief Peck and reported that Fire Chief Peck had informed him that the fire department would be beginning their yearly training. The planning and zoning members reported that they are planning on attending the Caribou County Planning and Zoning meeting in March. They asked for a letter from the city council explaining what the city council's opinion was concerning the area of impact that the county proposed so they were clear on the city council's opinion when attending the meeting. Clerk Reeves will write a letter for them to take to the meeting.

Travis Gilbert and Jordan Stoddard explained that the First West Lateral Canal has received a grant to repair the canal that runs under the highway and 4th South. Construction will begin in October of this year. They are hoping to work with the city at the west end where the city has a storm drain vault. They asked if the city would like to turn the storm drain into the open canal instead of punching into the canal. Superintendent Crookston indicated that the city would be interested in that. They explained that they have estimated that 1500 yards of asphalt will be disturbed, but that they are trying to avoid the curb and gutter in the area. The city council agreed that the city will work with them to help in whatever way it can.

Superintendent Crookston reported the following: Well #3 was pulled and the top 40 feet of bearings need to be replaced, after 40 feet the well is in good shape, and the cost won't be as expensive as previously estimated. The company is hopeful that they can begin the repairs on Friday or early next week.

The Center Street Bridge project is plugging along; he will try to figure out how to make the detour signs more explanatory next week. One of the plow trucks broke down yesterday and was at the repair shop. He asked city council members to remind people that there is no depositing snow on Main Street allowed.

The sweeper back end has problems and needs some major work done, it is estimated to cost $37,000.00.

Mayor Pristupa asked for citizen input.

Jackie Barthlome stated that Caribou Medical Center will be coming on March 13th to do a blood draw at the Legion Hut from 5:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
