Grizzlies Defeat Tigers In Double Header
Kamryn Mansfield looks to advance the ball in Saturday’s home win over Aberdeen.
Last Saturday the Grace boys and girls basketball teams hosted a double header against the Aberdeen Tigers. This was the second meeting for both squads this season. In both cases Grace came away with sizable victories when the teams played in December. This time around things did not go as smoothly for the Grizzly teams.
The girls took the court first. In their first meeting the Lady Grizzlies took control of the game early on and strolled to a nineteen point victory. This time around the Lady Grizzlies got off to a slow start. The Lady Tigers started the game with more energy and quickly took the lead. The Lady Grizzlies after struggling early on began to claw their way back into the game but still trailed at the end of the first. In the second quarter of play the momentum shifted to the Lady Grizzlies and they were finally able to shake off the holiday cobwebs. Grace used balanced scoring and solid defense to take over the game. Behind eighteen second quarter points from six different girls the Lady Grizzlies took the lead which they kept for the remainder of the game. The big second quarter was the turning point and Grace pulled away in the second half cruising to the victory and the season sweep over the Lady Tigers.

Now it was the boys turn to take center stage. In their first meeting the Grizzlies barely broke a sweat as they blew out the Tigers winning by over fifty points. Like the girls game the boys game would go very differently this time around. As the game got underway the Grizzlies struggled to make any shots. Meanwhile the Tigers played fast and caught fire from outside hitting four three point shots in the first quarter. After holding the Tigers to just eighteen points in their first meeting the Grizzlies watched Aberdeen tally twenty-two points in just the first quarter. Grace was able to make some foul shots to narrow the margin but trailed by double digits at the end of the opening quarter of play. In the second quarter the Grizzlies finally found their footing and flipped the script on the Tigers. Six different Grizzlies would score in the quarter but once again it was the senior Parker Yost who scored twelve of the team’s twenty-five second quarter points who vaulted the Grizzlies to a three point halftime lead. The Grizzlies poured it on in the second half as they pulled away for a twenty-three point win.
Both the boys and girls teams have busy weeks this week. The Lady Grizzlies host Soda Springs in a cross county rivalry game on Wednesday, then host Rich County on Friday before finishing the week at home with Murtaugh on Saturday. The Grizzly men will travel to Bear Lake on Thursday, then host Rich County on Friday and finish their week with Liberty Charter at home on Saturday.
