The Music of the Season
Tatum Dodge performed a heavenly solo on “The Manger of Bethlehem.”
On Sunday, the Soda Springs High School Auditorium was host to the 38th annual Caribou Community Choir and Orchestra Candle Light Christmas Concert. The orchestra and choir practiced separately for the most part in the lead up to the performance, other than two weekend rehearsals, so this was their first chance to hear what the combined force of the two parts was.
Following the candlelight processional and a welcome and invocation, the performance began with the full group, and a stirring rendition of “Oh Holy Night.” The Choir then performed “White is the Winter Night.”
During the remainder of the program, the orchestra performed “The First Noel” and “Sleigh Ride” as instrumentals. The latter’s performance included the amazing guest percussion of Rodger Sorensen, who performed on the bullwhip.
The Choir perform “Let it Snow,” “Betelehemu (Nigerian Christmas Song),” “Once in Royal David’s City,” and “Star of Bethlehem.”
Kim Mumford and Tanner Davis performed vocal solos on “O Come All You Unfaithful.”
“O Come All You Unfaithful” featured amazing solo work by Tanner Davis, and Kim Mumford in a powerful delivery.
“The Manger of Bethlehem,” and The Hallelujah Chorus” were performed by the groups together. Guest vocalist Tatum Dodge was outstanding as the soloist for the former song, and the audience enthusiastically joined in on the latter.
Directors for the evening included Tanner Davis, Kimberly Mumford, Vince Burgoyne, and Anne Olorenshaw, who each took their turns directing the joyful, but appropriately reverential music.
Accompanists for the concert were Michele Hart, Kim Mumford, Amy McCurdy, and Jeannine Robinett.
The Board of Directors for the group includes: Chairperson Wade Olorenshaw, Vice Chairperson Vince Burgoyne, Executive Director Kathleen Campbell, Executive Choir Director Kimberly Mumford, Executive Orchestra Director Anne Olorenshaw, Secretary Wade Olorenshaw, Orchestra Librarian Diana Mickelsen, Choir Librarian Dianna Mickelsen, Treasurer Wade Olorenshaw, Properties Manager Garrett Hill. Bob & Marilyn Kukachka, and Rodger Sorensen are donors.
As the concert ended, a long ovation was absolutely warranted.
It was an amazing concert and the musicians and directors deserve all the credit in the world. They are listed below for that purpose. There was an improv set after the performance as guests left, featuring Morgan Hill, Garrett Hill, Ralph Peterson, Tanner Davis, and Vince Burgoyne.
