Thursday night of the Caribou County Fair was family night. The entertainment for the night was the Gem Valley Stampede. The Stampede was along the lines of a ranch rodeo and featured locals of all ages. Competitions ranged from stock saddle bronc to mutton bustin to hide races. Some competitors as young as two competed in dummy roping and stick horse barrel racing. The mutton bustin is always a fan favorite as children dressed up in their best cowboy and cowgirl outfits and grab handfuls of wool to stay on a sheep for as long as they dare. There was also a boot race and a chicken chase for the youngsters. Moving up in age saw competitions like team ribbon roping, and hide races. The evening was capped off with miniature bull riding.
The Stampede is an event that is always family friendly and cost effective. Make plans to take the whole family next year and maybe even enter a few events.
