Grizzlies Attend Two Meets

The Grace Grizzly track team took part in two separate meets last week. They started off by traveling to West Side. The meet had some tough competition and the Grizzlies were a little short handed on athletes. The ones that were in West Side did see some improvements on times and distances. Several of the athletes took this meet as an opportunity to try some events that they don’t usually compete in. Gavin Draper tried his hand at the 300 meter hurdles where he set a pr and placed sixth. The freshman duo of Ty Stoddard and Kade Kimball stayed busy during the meet taking part in several events. Stoddard earned a new pr in the 100 meter dash and Kimball earned one in the javelin. The girls team saw a little more success. Tessica Jorgensen beat her own pr and the school record in the javelin on her way to winning the event. Bella Eddins set pr’s in the javelin and the 100 meter hurdles placing in the top five of all of her events. Kallie Stoddard did well in her hurdle races and earned a new pr in the high jump where she finished second overall.
Next a trimmed down version of the Grizzlies traveled to the Treasure Valley to take part in the Bandana Invite at Mountain View High School. With limited slots available the Grizzlies were only able to enter one or two athletes in each event. Success was hard for the Grizzlies to find in this meet with so many schools and athletes competing. One bright spot for the Grizzlies men was Gavin Draper who earned a pr in the javelin and placed fifth overall. For the Lady Grizzlies the distance girls took the spotlight once again. Lily Coleman and Lilly Gilbert set pr’s in the 1600 meter race with Gilbert also setting one in the 3200 meter race. The dynamic duo of Cally Coleman and Brooklyn Porter continued their season long rivalry with Coleman taking Porter’s school record in the 800 while Porter returned the favor by breaking Coleman’s 1600 meter school record. The two girls will no doubt play a pivotal role in the upcoming district meet.
Before districts happen the Grizzlies have one final meet this week. Grace will travel to Bear Lake on Thursday to compete in their final regular season meet.
