A Look At The Links

In this week's edition of A Look At The Links the Cardinal and Grizzly golfers hit the course in Preston. That tournament took place on Monday and was a bit of a preview of the upcoming district tournament that will take place next week. The tournament included 3A and 4A schools. The local golfers had a solid showing with some no doubt looking for a way to tweak their game to improve their standings in the district tournament that will take place on the same course. In the team scoring the Grizzly boys placed third behind two 4A schools while the Cardinals placed seventh. Soda Springs will need to improve their score next week if they want a shot at contending for a state qualifying spot. Their seventh place finish is not as bad as it sounds considering four of the schools that placed above them are 4A schools that they will not have to contend with at districts. However in Monday’s match up the Cardinals did trail the top seeded Grizzlies by twenty-four shots and the second highest finishing 3A school Westside by nine shots.
In the girls tournament the Cardinals walked away with the top overall spot beating all the other 3A and 4A schools in attendance. The Lady Grizzlies, like the boys team, placed third overall falling to Soda Springs and 4A Bear Lake. This was actually a bit of a surprise for the Grizzlies who added Tessica Jorgensen to their ranks who has been splitting her time with the track team where she had led the district in the javelin. With Jorgensen's help the Grizzlies added depth they needed to contend with the red hot Cardinals. Twenty-two strokes still separate the two teams with just one meet left before districts. In the individual scoring our local ladies dominated with the Cardinals and Grizzlies grabbing four out of the top five scores. Kamryn Mansfeild of Grace led all golfers placing first and her teammate Karlie Christensen took third. Jayden Parker led the way for the Cardinals once again putting herself between the two Lady Grizzlies taking the number two spot individually. Parker's teammate Tara Vedder wasn't far behind placing fifth overall.
Both the Cardinals and the Grizzlies will head to Bear Lake this week for another chance to duel it out before heading into districts.
