For the second year in a row Grace High School has won the prestigious School of Excellence award given out by the IHSAA.  The award is given to a school in each classification and is based on a trio of factors.  Schools earn points based on the performance of student athletes in academics, athletics, and sportsmanship.  The award is considered the top award given out by the IHSAA.  The IHSAA will recognize the top three schools in each classification at their annual meeting in July.  Grace was in a tight battle for the award but thanks to the Grizzlies success in their spring sports they were able to come away with the top honor in the 1AD1 classification.  Oakley high school came in second and Potlatch in third.  The only other 5th district schools to get recognition were Rockland who placed first in 1AD2 and Malad who placed second in 2A.  Grace saw some great success in athletics this past year as they qualified athletes for the state tournaments in several sports.  In addition to qualifying for state tournaments the Grizzlies brought home trophies in each of the following sports: Volleyball district championship and second at state, football third at state, girls x-country district championship and third at state, boys x-country third at state, girls basketball district and state championship, boys wrestling top scoring 1A team with two individual state champs, boys track and field district championship, girls golf third at state, boys golf district championship.

When asked for comment Superintendent Moss replied, “We are proud of the accomplishments of the students and staff at Grace High School for obtaining this distinction.  All those who participate in activities and athletics should be commended, along with their sponsors, advisors, and coaches.  It's a great day to be a Grizzly.”  Grace’s Athletic Director Trave Draper also showed gratitude for the award and those who helped earn it by saying, “It takes all of us to make it happen.  We are honored for the recognition and look forward as we continue to improve and grow.”

In addition to great athletic success several Grizzly athletes excelled in the classroom as well.  Recently in their end of year awards assembly the Grace high school honor roll was announced that included many athletes that were two and three sport athletes.  Nearly fifty student athletes were included on the list that featured ten athletes that finished the year with a perfect 4.0 GPA.  Grace did graduate a little over a dozen student athletes on the list but will return a strong group to compete on the courts and fields next season while gaining knowledge and an appreciation of sportsmanship.
