Fair Board Has A Work Day At The Fairgrounds

Saturday's work day focused on improving the lawns.
On Saturday June 1st members of the Caribou County Fair Board along with some of their family members met at the fairgrounds for a work day. With the fair just two months away the Fair Board is hard at work trying to finalize preparations for this year's Caribou County Fair. One of the items on their list of to do’s is taking a day to work on cleaning and improving the grounds themselves. This has become an annual event for the fair board members who usually try to drag along as many of their family members as possible. Some of their past work days have included painting of buildings and bleachers, tree trimming, weed eating, cleaning of project buildings, and preparing and hanging sponsor banners.
Saturday’s work day saw most of the focus on improving the lawns and planning for a number of upcoming construction projects. Some areas of the lawn were in dire need of leveling and refilling. Years of car and foot traffic have taken its toll. Fairboard members filled in several ruts and low spots on the lawns that had become a hazard to fairgoers. With some reseeding and hopefully plenty of sun and water the lawns should be in great condition for this year's fair. In addition to working on the lawns fair board members took the opportunity of gathering together to discuss some other projects that still need to take place before the fair begins.
One noticeable change to the grounds this year will be the absence of the two structured food booths located in the center of the midway. For years fairgoers have enjoyed getting their traditional fair burger at one of the cinder block buildings. Unfortunately the buildings have been condemned and will need to come down. Patrons need not be dismayed however as the recent rise in food trucks in the area will still give citizens a wide variety of tasty fair meals and treats. Not only will residents see some physical changes to the fair grounds but they will also notice some changes in nightly events taking place at this year's fair.
This year will see the return of the PRCA Rodeo that has been absent from the fair the last several years. Not only is there a change in the level of rodeo but the days of the rodeo have changed as well. Traditionally held on Thursday and Friday, this year's rodeo will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday night the Caribou Round-Up will be replaced by the Top 10 Idaho Junior Rodeo Association Rodeo. Friday night will feature the ever popular ATV Rodeo and things will wrap up Saturday with Live a Little Mini Monster Truck Show. Mark your calendars now for a fun filled fair week taking place August 5th through the 10th.
