NORTH GEM – On Friday, February 9th the North Gem Cowboy Cheerleaders traveled to Snake River High School to compete in the 5th District championship competition.  In the sport of cheer the state does not differentiate the 1A and 2A classifications.  This meant that North Gem, being one of the smallest schools in the district, would have to compete against schools that in some cases have 200 more students than they do, but this would not deter this squad who had been putting in months of hard work preparing for this competition.  Coaches Yost and Barnes have put together one of the largest cheer squads North Gem has had in recent memory.  Ten girls may not seem like many, but for a school the size of North Gem, it is quite the accomplishment to get them all to put in the time and effort to pull off a successful performance.  The Lady Cowboys competed in the pom category and earned the pride of their coaches. “These girls have worked so hard and represented North Gem with spirit and pride.  Although we didn't qualify for state this year they can definitely hold their heads high” Coach Barnes stated. Though the competition was over the girls had more work to do before the day ended.  They quickly made the trip back to North Gem where they cheered on the boys basketball team to a district win.
