Kenneth(Ken) K. Nelson

Soda Springs, Idaho- Kenneth (Ken) K. Nelson, 60, long time Soda Springs resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 23,2024, following a very courageous 4-year battle with small cell lung cancer.

Ken was born on January 1st, 1964 in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Louetta Matthews Brown and Kenneth Struhs. He was raised in Teton, Idaho by his mother and stepdad Faye Nelson then by Rich Shumway. He was the only boy with 4 sisters.

 He married Darla Pierce on September 24,1983 they were later divorced in July 1986. They had 2 children from that union, Boyd and Savannah. Ken moved to Soda Springs in 1987 and began working for Mark III in 1988 he worked there for 19 years. In 1991 he met the love of his life Barbara Mayne they were married on June 6,1992. They had their daughter Chantal on June 18,1992, then exactly a year they had Christopher on June 18,1993.

Ken was a hard worker and was always willing to help anyone and everyone until he was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer on November 14, 2019. He put up a great fight.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years Barbara Nelson of Soda Springs, Idaho their daughter Chantal (Owen) Beazer and granddaughter Eloyse of Moyie Springs, Idaho, Son Christopher Nelson and Granddaughter Atreyu of Soda Springs, Idaho. From his first marriage, son Boyd Stokes and kids from Fayetteville, North Carolina, Daughter Savannah (Matthew) Dey and Granddaughters Madison, Kaylee, Austyn and grandson Carter of Chino Valley Arizona. Sisters Perrylynn (Emilio) Castanon of Victor, Idaho, Terral (Manual) Betancourt of Teton, Idaho, Cheryl Beckstead of Yuma, Arizona, Nicky (Ron) Parker of Soda Springs, Idaho. Half Sister Delree Jones of St. Anthony, Idaho. Half-brothers Kenny Struhs, of Rigby, Idaho, Johnny Struhs of Rigby, Idaho, Jeff Struhs of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Stepsisters Barbara Kuzmich of Rigby, Idaho, Sherrie Radford of Rigby, Idaho. Brother in law Jeffrey (Judy) Mayne of Soda Springs, Idaho Sister in law Debra Terrier of New River Arizona. Lots of Nephews, Nieces, Great Nephews, and Nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in laws, half-brother and 3 brother in laws. 

Memorial services were held on Saturday February 3rd, 2024 at the Hooper Church 281 East Hooper Soda Springs, Idaho.
